"Pain is temporary, but pride is forever." That was scrawled on one of the many signs I remember from running the marathon last year. And it's true. Finishing and knowing the funds I raised helped Top Honors open a second program for students in Brooklyn was totally worth barely being able to walk for a week after the marathon. At a time when our country's leaders are telling the world that after school programs don't work, I can't think of a more important thing to do than support the students and tutors of Top Honors again this year.
I started tutoring with Top Honors in 2007. Ten years later, I've seen multiple students learn to face their fears about fractions, to settle their nerves about negative numbers. Mathematics is all about taking a big problem and breaking it down into smaller solvable problems in relentless pursuit of the final answer. And that's how I'll be approaching all 26.2 miles of this race - one step at a time!
Your support with cheering, donations and maybe even a practice run is welcomed. But the best way to support is raise awareness about the state of education in the state of New York. To invest your time in teaching a young one through one of the many tutoring programs available.
Come be part of the solution!
