It’s official. I’m running in the NYC Marathon this November 6th to raise $5,000 for Top Honors. And I’m proud to know that every step of those 26.2 miles will be to raise awareness for the steps a student must take to master mathematics. By the numbers, I need to be able to run a 13:45 minute mile for 26.2 miles to make sure I finish before they start breaking down the bleachers. Definitely a stretch goal, but worth the pursuit. Which is what I tell my students each week. I advise our middle schoolers NOT to give into their fears about fractions, to their nerves about negative numbers. Mathematics is all about taking a big problem and breaking it down into smaller solvable problems in relentless pursuit of the final answer. So that’s what the coming months will be. Your support with cheering, donations and positive energy and maybe even being a running buddy is welcomed. But the best way to support is raise awareness about the state of education in the state of New York. To invest your time in teaching a young one through one of the many tutoring programs available.Come be part of the solution!
