Hello! It’s me, David, again! For the last five years, I’ve tutored, coordinated, MC’ed, recruited, been launched into lunar orbit, and fundraised for Top Honors. I’ve ran the New York City Marathon on their behalf to raise funds and awareness for this great organization. The results of these races have been markedly different: one year I fell into a pothole and dragged a bum leg for 13 miles, while the next year I traipsed through the boroughs at a leisurely pace and spent quality time with my friend and family along the route.
Guess what? I’m running again this year (maybe for the last time), for math!
If you don't know, Top Honors is a volunteer organization that provides free tutoring services to NYC middle school students that need help with their math skills. We spend time each week playing games with students and working one-on-one with them to build expertise in and, just as important, enthusiasm for math! For the last five years, I've spent my Saturdays with these students. Working with them makes the entire weekend worthwhile, and helped nudge me towards a career in education. It's my mission to promote the organization while raising funds for our tutoring efforts in the coming school year.
This year, I'm hoping to raise $4,000 for Top Honors. That amount is enough for the materials required to provide about 10 students with a year of free tutoring. It will also go towards new initiatives to extend the services Top Honors offers throughout the city, such as the recent expansion to our third location in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. Thank you for supporting Top Honors!
Huffing and puffingly yours,
