Last year, I ran the New York City Marathon on behalf of Top Honors, to raise funds and awareness for this great organization. All was going great until, about 11 miles in, I quite literally ran into Brooklyn's native pest, and my worst nightmare: a pothole. Long story short, I dragged my leg for the next four and a half hours, for math! Specifically, for Top Honors.
If you don't know, Top Honors is a volunteer organization that provides free tutoring services to NYC middle school students that need help with their math skills. We spend time each week playing games with students and working one-on-one with them to build expertise in and (just as important) enthusiasm for math! For the last three years, I've spent my Saturday morning with these students, and working with them makes the entire weekend worthwhile. It's my mission to promote the organization while raising funds for our tutoring efforts in the coming school year.
This year, I'm hoping to raise $5,000 for Top Honors. That amount is enough for the materials required to provide 10 students with a year of free tutoring. It will also go towards initiatives to extend the services Top Honors offers throughout the city. Thank you for supporting Top Honors!
Huffing and puffingly yours,
